THE LAYERS OF THE EARTH
An information about the Earth brought by the Qur'an is its
similarity to the sky composed of seven layers:
It is God who has created seven heavens and so many lands. Cheap Umrah Deals UK Between them [His] commandment goes down, that you may know that God is truly
Omnipotent and that God has embraced all things of [His] knowledge. (Qur'an,
65: 12)
We know, in fact, today that the Earth's atmosphere consists
of different superimposed layers. In addition, these layers are precisely
sevend as described in the Qur'an. They are described by scientists as follows:
1. Lithosphere (oceanic crust)
2. Lithosphere (Earth's crust)
3. Asthenosphere
4. Upper coat
5. Lower coat
6. External core
7. Internal core
The word lithosphere derives from the Greek lithos , meaning
"stone", and constituting the upper stratum of the earth's crust. It
is rather thin in comparison with other strata. The lithosphere below the
oceans is even thinner, and is a region with volcanic activity. Its average
thickness is 80 km. It is colder and harder than other layers, and therefore
forms the envelope of the Earth.
Under the lithosphere is the so-called asthenosphere stratum,
a term derived from the Greek word asthenes meaning "weak". This
layer is thinner than the lithosphere and is in constant motion because of its
viscous composition. It is composed of hot and semi-solid substances, capable
of melting when exposed to too high temperatures and pressure during geological
periods. It is thought that the lithosphere, of solid structure, floats or
moves on a slow moving asthenosphere. 24 Under these strata, there is a layer
of very high temperature and a thickness of about 2,900 km, composed of semi-solid
rocks, called the mantle of the Earth. This layer contains more iron, magnesium
and calcium than the crust, and is also warmer and denser because the
temperature and density in the center of the Earth increases with depth.
In the center of the Earth is the nucleus, approximately
twice as dense as the Earth's mantle. At the origin of this high density is the
content of metals (alloy of iron and nickel) much larger than the rock
composition. The nucleus is composed of two parts. A thick liquid metal layer
of 2,200 km, called the outer core and the inner core with a thick solid
composition of 1,250 km. The outer liquid core is at the origin of the Earth's
magnetic field during the rotation of the Earth.
The concordance of these data relating to the heavens and the
earthly layers, identified only by the technology of the 20 th century, is
undoubtedly another scientific miracle of the Quran.
